Mindful living programNext Stress Reduction Mind-Body Medicine Group begins Wednesday, April 14th from 7:30-9:30 PM. If you'd like to learn more about this group, you are invited to attend a free introductory stress reduction meeting on Wednesday, March 31st at 7:30 PM. The Mindful Living Program was formally founded in 2007, after hurricane Katrina, in response to a growing scientific and public interest in integrative mind-body practices and self-care. Mind-body medicine skills bring together the effectiveness of modern biosciences with the wisdom of traditional healing practices. Scientific evidence shows that mind-body interventions help relieve symptoms of numerous medical and mental health conditions while decreasing stress, and cultivating wellness and self-care. Common conditions for which there is scientific evidence for mind-body approaches include:
Mind-body approaches are non-stigmatizing, cost-effective, easily accessible, and can be taught to clients, patients and professional in diverse settings including clinics, hospitals, schools and businesses. The Mindful Living Program teaches mind-body medicine skills through individual, group educational sessions, corporate consulting, and community service.
Individual Mind-Body SessionsIndividual Mind-Body Sessions are offered by Dr. Calderón through Mindful Psychiatry, usually as a set of 4-6 sessions. Sessions are individually tailored to meet the individual’s needs, whether to help a novice begin a personal mind-body practice or to aid more experienced practitioners of mind-body skills. Mind-Body-Based Wellness GroupsMind-Body-Based Wellness Groups are a powerful and effective way of learning these techniques in a supportive and confidential group setting. The group experience complements and fosters the development of an individuals practice. Groups meet for one-and-half to two hours a week, for eight to twelve weeks. A commitment to develop an individual self –care practice and to attend the full program is required. These groups are offered several times a year and are closed to new participants once a new course begins. Mindful Psychiatry will tailor the Mindful Living Program’s training to your company’s needs. Facilitator: José Calderón-Abbo, M.D.Dr. Calderón is nationally known in the field of integrative mind-body psychiatry and the leading mind-body medicine practitioner in New Orleans. He is a certified mind-body practitioner and faculty with Dr. James Gordon’s Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington D.C. He has trained with Jon Kabat-Zinn and his colleagues on Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR), as well as Dr.Herbert Benson at Harvard University’s Benson-Henri Institute for Mind Body Medicine, and with Jack Kornfield among others. He is currently researching a mind-body based relapse prevention model for addictions and the use of this techniques for chronic painful conditions. |
